Unit 74: computer
game story development.
Assignment 1:
unstoppable game story development
In a games
prospective for unstoppable I would make it an action, simulator, button masher
game I would chose these because the movie gives the feel of action in it with
the trains escapes and the attempts in the capture on the train 777, simulation
for the driving of the train its self, and button masher because certain scenes
would work well for it.
Unstoppable was a film based on a real event, where the
train 777 was lost due to incompetence of the driver who was later fired from
his position the driver Dewey played by Ethan Suplee, this person was ordered
to move 777 but does not link the air brakes and leaves the carriage to flip a
track switch but does not make it in time and 777 makes it on the main line
endangering many lives.
Main characters.
Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington), the enganeer of train1206
and the father of Nicole and Maya
Will Colson (Chris Pine) - the person who stops 777
and is the conductor of train 1206 and the main character who has a restraining
opder against him.
Sub characters.
Rosario
Dawson- Connie- the rail manager of the main train station in the movie.
Ethan Suplee-Dewey- the engineer of 777 who lost control of
it and allowed it to go on the main line.
Kevin
Dunn-Galvin- the
owner of the train componey and the person who guves the orders of the first
and second attempts to stop 777 in the
movie
Kevin Corrigan-Inspector Werner- the inspector knowng what the 77 was transporting and
what it could do if it were to explode.
Kevin Chapman-Bunny- one of the rail management at the main station in the
movie.
Lew Temple-Ned- another train worker and the truck driver
who helps will get to the front if 777
T.J.
Miller-Gilleece- the
conductor of the 777
Jessy
Schram-Darcy- the wife of will and is with his son the main of the film and is
never see talking much.
David Warshofsky-Judd Stewart- in the
movie id there to slow the 777 to allow another to stop the train but is
derailed by the 777 and is killed in the movie.
Elizabeth Mathis-Nicole- one of the daughters of frank and
working at hooters the whole time
Meagan
Tandy-Maya- one of the two daughters of frank and in the movie is worker at
hooters the whole time.
Ryan Ahern-Ryan Scott – the solder who was the
first to attempt to stop 777 in the movie.
The main motivations in the movie seemed to be the
character’s families and how their situations were for example Will Colson was
motivated by his child and ‘wife’ who had a restraining order on him because he
threatened an officer in his car resulting in him wanting to live to be with
both his wife and child.so the emotions in this are fear, love, and regret I
believe.
The beginning of the film is from the first character being
seen to the loss of the train 777 during this time you meet the main two characters
and their emotional back stories are revealed in the opening scenes.
Once the train 777 is on the mains the middle begins , in
this more characters are revealed and are shown to be important and it begins
to show the problem of what was happening with the speeding up of the train and
at this point the action begins the train becoming a problem and the putting
children in danger, with this scene they only just escape dearth , during this
middle there are multiple attempts to stop the train and two deaths one of a
soldier and another being killed by being derailed and not bailing , this continues
down the track showing the real footage of the trains movements and a act of
shooting the side of the train and a attempt to derail the train this does not
work due to the speed so the main character’s catch up with the train and
attempt to stop it but linking to the back and pulling and activating the
emergency brakes this is where it ends.
The end, this starts when they began to slow the train and
the main character takes the 777 controls and stops it they are then rewarded
and seen as heroes in the end.
The relationship between the two main characters starts out
rough with them always seeming to be on the verge of fighting or roughing, but
as the movie progress’s the two are forced to trust one another and become
friendlier over time and then by the end are best mates of the sort.
The plot.
Will Colson is
starting a new job as a train conductor for the railroad. He is assigned to
work with Frank Barnes a veteran train engineer. Initially there's some tension
between them. Later a train that is carrying chemicals is running with no one
controlling it. It is feared that if it stops or crashes into a populated area
it could disastrous. Connie, an exec suggests derailing it but the man in
charge refuses to do that on account of what it will cost. When attempts to
stop it fail, there's fear of what they can do. But when Frank and Will have a
close call with it, Frank decides to stop it themselves by coupling on to it.
Will is not sure about it but sticks with Frank. By sticking with frank
they successfully stop the rough train and are rewarded and reunited with their
families at the end of the film.
The significant differences
between an unstoppable game and the film.
-The game would be a simulator, action, button mashing game.
-The main characters could die in the game.
-The player would control the speed of the train if they
fail to do so correctly they would die by crashing.
-The player would have choices that could determine death or
not.
-The main train may have a choice to have the pressure
brakes work.
-The main character train could fit in the first stop
avoiding the 777 and maybe stopping the death of another engineer.
-The marine could survive and stop the train.
-The fat man could run faster and get on in a button mash.
-Main characters could die in the link up or the 777 could
explode instead.
Each of the above could happen because the player made a
choice for it to happen or successfully completed a task or failed, the outcome
of each event is basically decided by the player and what they do.
The game would also be different from the movie by using different
voice actors, different outcomes and could contain content that was never in
the film its self maybe like the marine stopping 777 in the first attempts or
777 never escaping or the main character’s could die and another is pushed to
stop the train.
in conclusion the film is based of real events but had some features that are only in to add more action to a already terrible film and a bad event, the movie was easily worked out and you knew how it would end from the start.
